Allen I. Posted August 23, 2007 Report Posted August 23, 2007 Sorry for the long post but I had to share with someone who might be able to relate. So I finally have the truck running like a top. Turns out it was a ground strap in the distributor that was rotten inside the insulation and a problem with the choke cable. Since fixing the choke cable I have had to refigure out where she likes to be when cold/hot/idling. I've flooded her a couple times. Well, two days ago I replaced the homemade ground strap with a real one from NAPA. Put it all back together and tried to start up. Nada. Fiddled with the choke, tried a bit, still nothing. Opened up the distributor for the second time and made sure everything was as it should be. Gave up from frustration and tried to start later in the day and again a couple times yesterday. When I got home from work today I looked at my son's Thomas the Tank Engine table and there, in one of the freight cars, was my rotor. He is 2 and loves to help me. I handed him the rotor the first time and asked him to keep it safe. I must have gotten sidetracked and he brought it in the house when my wife called him in for a snack (to get him out of my hair). I left the rotor where it was and found the little one in another room. I asked him where the piece to daddy's truck was and he ran right to it. Apparently, freight cars are very safe places. Twice I had that distributor open and twice I missed the rotor. I just came in after putting it back. Fired up after about 3 spins. Maybe I should not admit to things like this. Quote
bach4660 Posted August 24, 2007 Report Posted August 24, 2007 Isn' that great when they do exactly what you tell them, thats almost as much fun as having a running truck Quote
Guest bigdaisy19k Posted August 24, 2007 Report Posted August 24, 2007 I love how when I put down the wrench my boy picks it up (he's three) and goes back to double check the bolt I just finished on! Quote
grady hawkins Posted August 24, 2007 Report Posted August 24, 2007 Having just got my D24 finished and running great, the shop let a P-15 roll back into the grille!! Anyone have a good D-24 club coupe grille. I guess a sedan would fit also Quote
Heavy Flat Head Posted August 24, 2007 Report Posted August 24, 2007 Allen, This is one you well remember for years to come. My youngest girl when she was 5 pushed me out of the way when I was tunning up our 52 Dodge. She told me I can do that Dad, you are getting to old for that. A new grease monkey was born that day and it makes all the hard times raising kids worth it. Enjoy them well you can. Ed. Quote
62rebelP23 Posted August 27, 2007 Report Posted August 27, 2007 you guys are lucky to have QC inspectors so close at hand! my son never caught the wrench bug so i have to be my own QC. Quote
Tom Skinner Posted August 28, 2007 Report Posted August 28, 2007 Maybe try putting the beer back down on the bench and look at what your doing. Kids are great even though they distract you. Enjoy them they grow up fast. Tom Quote
