matt167 Posted April 9, 2018 Report Posted April 9, 2018 Hooking up my Wiix bypass oil filter base/ filter. What size are the block threads. 1/8"? also is it safe to Tee a liquid filled gauge into that oil circuit? this is a driver car and I want to keep track of oil pressure with a gauge I know is good. Gauge in the dash works but seems but seems lazy Quote
DrDoctor Posted April 9, 2018 Report Posted April 9, 2018 Matt, While I can’t address your inquiry about the size of the threads (altho; you're guess sounds right, or close to it . . .), connecting an auxiliary gauge with a tee-fitting will cause no problems. If you’re mounting the gauge to the engine-mounted tee-fitting, you should use a liquid-filled one, as you’ve mentioned. If, however, you decide to mount the gauge elsewhere under the hood. I’ve had excellent results using small copper tubing, and making a coil of tubing at the engine to deal with the vibration (never had any breakage or leakage doing this). Good luck, and best regards. thebeebe5 Posted April 10, 2018 Report Posted April 10, 2018 As I recall (recently reinstalling all my oil galley plugs this past week) they're 1/8" NPT. Quote
matt167 Posted April 10, 2018 Author Report Posted April 10, 2018 cool and I take it, the top one is inlet, bottom is return? 1 Quote

Are you talking about the engine block or the filter canister? Some filter canisters feed from the upper port and drain out the bottom. Others feed from the bottom and return out the upper port. Look for markings near the ports. On the engine block the oil galley ports feed the filter and it returns down next to the oil pressure regulator valve. Quote
matt167 Posted April 11, 2018 Author Report Posted April 11, 2018 I'm using a Wix spin on bypass filter adapter that is marked in and out... The guy I bought the car from removed the disposable canister and plugged the holes, and scrapped the lines. I have the old disposable canister but no lines to discern where they go and this is my first Mopar flathead. I have a Motors manual on hand and a factory Plymouth manual on order. Quote
Merle Coggins Posted April 11, 2018 Report Posted April 11, 2018 Between the starter and distributor... Top one is pressure feed, bottom one is return to sump. Just to the left of the pipes is a plug where your dipstick may be. MIne is attached to the pan, because it's a front sump, so the port in the block is plugged. Quote
matt167 Posted April 11, 2018 Author Report Posted April 11, 2018 Ok, cool. Does the Wix base need a restrictor? It's a 27455 base and the outlet of the filter itself has a restrictor. I'm thinking that as long as the filter is pre filled ( and that is shown on the side of the filter ) it will be ok. I pulled the fitting from the old disposable canister and it looks like a restrictor but still bigger than the filters internal Quote
