I see I am coming into this conversation very as in years later.  So what is the status of your project?  Just for clarification your body is a D-22 which is the American Version.  D-23 would be a Canadian  version which actually is built on a shorter Plymouth body and the grille is modified to fit the Plymouth openings yet it resembles slightly the Dodge horizontal look.  FYI your trunk lid was replaced with a 46-48 lid as the brake light and DODGE name are all post war.  As far as blackout I suspect someone just painted the grille and some of the trim but it is possible it is a blackout our was on the sales lot after Jan 1 1942.  Dealers were required to paint chrome trim so no dealer would have an unfair advantage.  Blackouts started around serial number 30636724 (serial number should be on the right front door hinge pillar)   About the last 11% made were factory Blackouts.  Attached is a picture of a 1942 Dodge (D-22) Blackout Convertible.  The trim on the inside was also painted.  Also attached is a 1942 D-23 Canadian Dodge (black) and a 1942 American Plymouth (P-14).  As previously discussed the door for the D-24 post war dodge might be similar in size  but the exterior shape would be different since after the war the front fender swept into the door where 1942  the front fender stopped at the cowl.  This affect the hinges as the door has to hinge out more  with the post war to clear the  front fender.  There is a guy named Ken that was modifying a D-24 into a D-22.  I remember he ran into that.  Also attached is an image of a 42 Dodge trunk lid.
