keithb7 Posted July 9, 2017 Report Posted July 9, 2017 (edited) Hi folks, Symptom last night was engine is surging under load. Feels like fuel delivery to me. So today I got into my 1953 Windsor carb for the first time to check it out. I found some interesting things. I searched this forum and someone else posted this below here pic. It shows my issue perfectly. The spring shown here is missing form my carb. According to the manual it appears to be dashpot lifter return spring. I also found a loose jet below it that I tightened up. The spring on my accelerator pump needed to be re-stretched to increase length too. The pump shaft with spring assembly was very sloppy. I'm headed off to a few different stores to see if I can get lucky and find a spring. Hopefully the things I have found help a little. l. Edited July 10, 2017 by keithb7 Quote
keithb7 Posted July 10, 2017 Author Report Posted July 10, 2017 Found a spring! Seems to work. Oil change time. Holy, what a mess. My '53 does not have a drain plug on the filter housing. As soon as I pop the lid, oil goes everywhere. Nice. Seeing as this is my first oil change, I will be doing things a little differently next time. Maybe I'll go to the dump and pick up an old mattress to lay under the car. When I'm done take it back. 13 quarts including the torque and filter housing. That's a fair amount of oil! Quote
