"Vent" in bell housing

Anyone out there with the official nomenclature of the vent-like piece toward the top on the rear of a "53, and earlier, 3 speed truck bell housing?  I have a 1 5/16" + or - hole there and can find no sign of it in my parts manual.

That is in the right spot but the opening in my housing is round.  It might simply take a freeze plug or other type of rubber plug.  Obviously, it is not meant to contain any pressure so it might end up with a rubber plug.

McMaster-Carr hole plugs would work, with a few dabs of RTV
