It'd be great if the page numbers of a thread were also positioned at the top of the page as well as the bottom right. It'd save scrolling down to reach them. Or am I missing something?

I read from top to bottom. Works well for me.  When I open a thread to read new posts it opens below the previous posts. When I get to the bottom of the page I am reading the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4 ....... are there for me to click on.

When I go to like the second page of a post,  my original question appears at the top and I have to scroll all the way down to the bottom to see the latest reply. Should that be?

Most keyboards have a page top or page bottom key or function. Just use that to scroll quickly up/down. 
Or just hold the space bar down to quickly scroll down, shift-spacebar to scroll back up. 
Or use a function key sequence. For example Function (Fn) right arrow or left arrow scrolls up/down on a Mac. I'm sure their is a similar function on windows keyboards.
