The people on that forum are kinda known for being square deal folks when it comes to buying and selling. Good gosh, is that a York type AC compressor? Somebody is missing out on a good deal.

Maybe a double pulley on the water pump, powering the AC pump. Or, one big long V belt for all, but it kinda looks like the water pump pulley would not stick out enough to grab the belt.

I could 'use' it,,,but affeared shipping half way across the country would be 'purty' high. Anybody care to 'guess' how much freight would be?? Georgia to Nebraska for motor trans combo???

Did you checkout Uship? I once got bids for having a motor sent over several states once OH to IA. If its an outfit thats going through the same direction anyway you might get a decent rate. Worst case no one offers a bid for what you want.

There are a couple of guys on the HAMB who haul cars and parts around the country, and they are very reliable and very reasonable. A HAMBER named Ben D works the mid-west mostly, and another HAMBER named Stevie G mostly works the east coast.

I had Ben D give me some parts from a 48 Dodge he was stripping a couple of years ago. All I had to do was pay postage.

As for Stevie G,he works from out of the Atlanta,Georgia area, and sometimes goes out west.

Both are reliable and very honest. It was Stevie G who went to New Hampshire and picked up the 42 coupe I bought up there and delivered it to me in NC a week or so ago. Ben D was busy with a haul out west, and recommended Stevie G to me.

Maybe you could even work a combo deal, and get Stevie G to pick it up and deliver it to Ben D so Ben can deliever it to you the next time he goes to Nebraska? Ben is out of Mo,if I remember correctly.

This guy's price is high even though he claims its fairly fresh. I've seen too many so-called fresh engines that weren't. Shipping would $350 +.

"A few years ago".....how long is that----when was it overhauled? How fresh is it?? That compressor is huge......wonder if it's off some other early mopar with air. They started putting air in DeSoto and Chrysler about 1951. I once had a 51 DeSoto hardtop with a/c--with those plastic tubes in the rear window and the box unit in the trunk.

Ben D from the HAMB is from my area......about a good hour from here in Crane, MO. He does haul stuff around for car guys....for a fee. Sometimes he may wait til he gets a load before hitting the road to a given place. So he may not be

the very quickest delivery. I think he even has an old Plymouth or Dodge.

I have a 54 Olds 98 parts car with the complete ac system in it that you describe. The ac unit sits in the trunk under the package tray, and the plastic tubes come out of there and go to vents in the roof like airliners have. Been a while since I looked, but I believe the compressor is that big, too. I have no doubt you could fire that baby up and hang meat in the rear seat if it's working right.

Ben D shipped my car (39 Chrysler) with no troubles. If he or one of the other shippers is headed that way, he can put the engine on his trailer and drop it off 'along the way', sort of. Need a hoist at both ends, or the engine crated and a forklift.

From the sellers subsequent posts, it's obvious he'll take less - maybe even a trade for a hunting dog :-)

i am from about 20 miles from this engine and called the guy. I knew the car and the owner of the car. He had engine rebuilt;t by a guy in my town Hazlehurst Ga. but I am not familiar with him as a good or know engine builder I am going to check it out further. The guy WHO owns the engine kept it when he put a 350 in the dodge- He says he has a lot of money in it but?>??????

I will probably look at it but I am skeptical

The seller thinks he has alot of money in the motor cause the guy traded it to him for 1000 dollars worth of work I think he said!! Dont know what it is REALLY worth. He did say he got a great shipping rate of about 300 bucks out of somebody!!

This guy really IS a pretty nice guy!! We are starting to even 'think' alike. I think he shot me a price I can 'live' with delivered to MY door. (Including crating).

We have agreed that a compression test would be in BOTH our interests. pending those results(which should tell me major condition of said motor).

Now question of the day. I dont presently own a car with a/c. Not totaly familiar with what is involed with a project like that?? What more besides whats coming ON this engine ,,,would I NEED for a/c in this 50 Dodge?? Is there a way I could take back out without butchering the car?? IF I ever wanted to?? I guess I am used to 460 air,,so why add a problem now?? Does this compressor have ANY value on its own?? Sale-able??

Check out vintage air - they have good PDFs of install instructions for AC units, they will show you the basics. If you keep the stock heater you would need a separate AC-only unit, many folks put the vents by the radio (need smaller radio) and perhaps in front of the door by your shins. The hard parts are in the area of fitting things under the dash. But removing the stock heater and going with the aftermarket one with AC would get you defrost / defog with AC and warm air (dries the air).

AC is required anywhere in Texas, most of the deep South. 460 A/C just does not cut it when the outside temp is 95 and humidity is the same.

Several members here have installed AC and I'm sure they will chime in with pictures, accounts and descriptions .
