ColonelDan Posted July 22, 2016 Report Posted July 22, 2016 I recently needed new studs and lug nuts for 1950 Dodge right rear wheel. Every source I contacted wanted to provide me lug bolts. Questions arose regarding the originality of my rear end. I see no evidence that the rear end was ever replaced with one of a different vintage but I think it would be difficult to tell if someone had - especially if it happened 20 or more years ago. Everything about the physical aspects of the rear axel match the shop manual. There is even a stamping in the pinion casting that clearly marks it as 3.9 ratio which is correct for the car. I can find no photos or drawings of the drums so I don't know if there should be studs or bolts. I suppose the original drums could have been replaced with newer ones. Can anyone advise if this is possible? Does anyone know if this year and model had bolts only (or if it could have be built either way)? I found a stud that seemed to match the dimensions of the old studs I pressed out and purchased five. They pressed in nicely and assuming they will not eventually crack my drum, I think I have a winner. I'm just curious regarding the vintage of my axel/drums. Quote
