wdoland Posted May 21, 2016 Report Posted May 21, 2016 My Spitfire with Fluid Drive runs great. But sometimes it stalls when I let up on the gas too fast. For example, the other day, I started to accelerate from a four way stop. The driver on my right pulled out in front of me and I quickly let up on the gas to brake. It stalled. Also I have a very steep driveway. (NASA wanted to use it as a launch pad) I give it gas all the way into the garage then take my foot off to brake and it sometimes stalls. Any thoughts? Wayne Quote

Dodgeb4ya Posted May 22, 2016 Report Posted May 22, 2016 (edited) The carburetor has a electrically operated dashpot and maybe this part of the fuel system is not working correctly... and letting the throttle return to the slow idle speed at 475 RPM too quickly. The dash pot will delay the return to slow idle by a few seconds preventing stalling on sudden on ff the gas situations like you describe. The dash pot plunger could be bypassing fuel, dashpot linkage issue or no power to the antistall unit shown etc.... All this assuming the engine is tuned well and runs well.
