Falcon(63) Posted July 11, 2007 Report Posted July 11, 2007 Another question from the newbie to group, but not the world. I am in the process of removing the rear springs on my B3B. All was well till I got to the front shackle of the rear spring. It has a bolt that goes through horizontally which I removed, but I can't figure out how to get the spring out of the shackle. Thanks Henry Quote
Falcon(63) Posted July 12, 2007 Author Report Posted July 12, 2007 Since I didn't get an answer to my ? I took a cutting torch and cut the shackle off. According to Truck Parts List, exploded view, page 17-1, the spring is supposed to be held on by a bolt and nut. Wrong!.. It has a large pin that the grease fitting screws into that has to be driven out through a hole in the frame cross support, rear spring, front only. FYI the hard way. Quote
Reg Evans Posted July 12, 2007 Report Posted July 12, 2007 Sorry nobody saved you from learning the hard way. I started out looking on the DPETCA for an image to post here for you and contracted A.D.D. and went off on some other tangent. Quote
Tony_Urwin Posted July 12, 2007 Report Posted July 12, 2007 My parts book calls it a bolt, but you are right, it is a special kind of smooth pin with a grease fitting on the end. Be sure that you orient the new pin correctly when you install it. It has a groove in the bottom that is indexed to the retaining bolt that clamps it into the bracket. Quote
Falcon(63) Posted July 12, 2007 Author Report Posted July 12, 2007 Thanks Reg and Tony. Sometimes the hard way is the best. Also, thanks Tony for the tip on installation. That is what is great about this club, everybody tries to help each other. Quote
