Coronet1950 Posted February 2, 2016 Report Posted February 2, 2016 (edited) Hey everyone, I have a 1950 Coronet that I am currently working on. My plans for the car are to swap to a 318 with auto trans. I will be installing a floor shifter and a cavalier rack and pinion. My question is about the steering column. Has anybody used a different steering column? I have seen pics but no write ups. I have heard about using a olds delta 88 column, but I was wondering about this one. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Chrome-Tilt-Steering-Column-Manual-32-Street-Hot-Rod-Floor-Shift-No-KEY-/351335072072?hash=item51cd33c148:g:qO4AAOSw4SlV8zz9&vxp=mtr Is there a particular length that I need? are there any questions I need to be asking myself before I start this venture? thanks for the help. Plymouthy Adams Posted February 2, 2016 Report Posted February 2, 2016 most any of the late 80's and early 90's model fwd Mopar steering columns, including late model Dakota truck have short steering columns that are only as deep as the firewall....If you wish to do a swing pedal upgrade...the Dakota may be you baby...they are easily adaptable to these cars as the steering column is stock braced from above and mounted to the lower edge of the dash..may not be what you looking for but maybe something to consider... Branded Posted February 2, 2016 Report Posted February 2, 2016 (edited) The coulomn you show a link to is a Chinese knock off. What ever choice you make DO NOT buy one of cheap Chinese knock off column that looks like a Flaming River or Ididit column. There is a reason the are 1/3 the price. Most all the insides are made of plastic. I had a costumer bring one of the Chinesse columns for me to install and the tilt joint busted before it left the shop. Do a Google search on the Chinese column and you'll see that they don't get very good reviews. Edited February 2, 2016 by Branded Quote
