48ply1stcar Posted August 3, 2015 Report Posted August 3, 2015 Apparently my thermostat has never been installed correctly. I haven't been able to find how to install this on-line or searching the forums. Am I supposed to remove this brass at the bottom of the housing and install the thermostat inside / above the brass insert. Quote
Don Coatney Posted August 3, 2015 Report Posted August 3, 2015 The spring on the thermostat always goes in the water and the head is always full of water. Quote
_shel_ny Posted August 3, 2015 Report Posted August 3, 2015 (edited) Looks like the remains of a thermostat to me. I have seen about a half dozen, and they never had an insert. OK, I am now educated. See next. Edited August 3, 2015 by shel_ny Quote
Don Coatney Posted August 3, 2015 Report Posted August 3, 2015 These new replacements do have an insert. Quote

48ply1stcar Posted August 4, 2015 Author Report Posted August 4, 2015 (edited) Thank you Don, the insert was in without the thermostat. By the way I gave up on the engine and brought it into a rebuilder. Harold Edited August 4, 2015 by 48ply1stcar Quote
