Rear Break Drums Removed.

Bob Van Buskirk came by last night and helped me...well I helped him remove the drums off the D 24. The shoes and drums look really good, however, we had some trouble dealing with the mess the last owner made out of the reverse thread lugs. It looked like he went after them with a hammer. Not Bob, the last owner. Next order of business...

• Replace the Cylinders
  
• Replace the front seal on the rear end
  
• clean and or replace the rear lines along the axle

If you don't know how old those old brake shoes are, I'd have them relined for safety's sake. My shoes looked good when I first bought the car too, so I left them. Not long after while slowing down, one of the rear wheels locked up when I gently put the brake on. When I got home I pulled the drum to see what was wrong. The lining on one of the shoes had fallen apart in shreds. So, I'll never again trust shoes when I don't know how old they are. If the guy behind me that day wasn't paying good attention, he would have plowed into me when that wheel locked up. Will not buy NOS linings for that reason either.

I pulled my rear drums yesterday and found one of the right rear wheel cyl seals completely blown apart and the shoe lining GONE. Glad I haven't taken it for a test drive yet

They look fresh. As if someone did a brake job and then did not drive the car. The rear wheel cylinders will survive, but they were frozen up with crud. They have been cleaned and are waiting for new kits. Bob
