Tatback Posted June 6, 2015 Author Report Posted June 6, 2015 I haven't torqued the head. I'm going to check the coolant levels Sunday when I do a partial flush. I noticed the water too, but the video was taken about 15-20 seconds into the idle and it was the first time it's been started in about a week. Quote
Ulu Posted June 6, 2015 Report Posted June 6, 2015 It's probably pretty humid there, huh? (I hear the State Flower is Mildew...) Likely just condensate then. Quote
Tatback Posted June 6, 2015 Author Report Posted June 6, 2015 Mildew lol, yep pretty much. I'm not exactly sure what the humidity was last night but right now it's 72% to give an idea. I hope it's not the head gasket. I'll keep an eye on the exhaust once it's warmed up next time. Some days you walk outside and it just hits you. Those days you could probably take aquatic plants and just leave them on your patio and they'd be fine. Quote
Sharps40 Posted June 6, 2015 Report Posted June 6, 2015 (edited) Before ya break out the wrenches and totally rebuild the engine again, inspect, tune, test and maybe check torques. If you don't see any thing more scary than that little bit of gunk in the motor, go for a drive. One of the dangers of asking for advice is the advice you get. Often it'll worry one to death when what ya should do is run through the inspection and tuning procedures in the applicable MOTORS manual so ya can tick off all the simple things first. If it passes all that and since it seemingly ran fine as froghairs 2 miles off the truck and starts and idles pretty well, you can then have some confidence in driving it. After 500 miles its liable not to be so stiff and dry from a near 40 year sit, heck, might not even putt putt. Heck, only 20 seconds into a cold motor after a week sit, looks and sounds just fine. Just my opinion and no offense but yer wringin yer hands without cause at this point. If a good inspection, test, tune and long Sunday drive reveals any demons, then wring them hands. For now, that flatty sounds nice nice at cold start fast idle! Edited June 6, 2015 by Sharps40 Quote
