Tommy Posted June 1, 2015 Report Posted June 1, 2015 I just purchased a sweet 1941 P12 coupe. I am trying to purchase insurance that will actually cover the vehicle worth. No one will write the policy if the vehicle Isn't kept in a locked garage. I have a carport, no garage. Any suggestions? Quote
desoto1939 Posted June 2, 2015 Report Posted June 2, 2015 That is correct. The major carriers such as JC Taylor, Grundy, Congdon and Skelly all require the car to be in a locked garage. I have had this conversation with each carrier. You might try your regular car carrier but it might be the same. The all want the car to secured and not to be able to be damaged. One gentleman had a secure garage for his car but left the car out over night. During the night time some kids egged his car. The carrier did not cover the damaged because the car was not put back into the lockable garage. Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com Quote
bobostski Posted June 2, 2015 Report Posted June 2, 2015 I talked to a Hagerty agent today and they will insure a car not in a locked garage. The prices are higher but insurance is available depending on which state you live in. For example, I can have a car port but I have to be 100 miles from the coast. I cannot get driveway insurance in Texas because we have too many hail storms. If you go to their website to get a quote, they will ask you how the car is being stored and give you a price accordingly. I did this and the price went from $100 a year to $200 on a $10,000 car value. Quote
