I did not install a heat shield on my rebuilt engine. I recently returned from a 650 mile trip in hot midwest summer temperatures. had no adverse effects with no heat shield. I do not believe all cars and trucks had these heat shields when they left the factory. My opinion is they are not necessary.

As mentioned, many cars and trucks are missing the shields today for one reason or another. My coupe still has the shield on it. If I lost or broke it, I would replace it because it does belong there, at least on the cars. It is listed in the parts books as coming from the factory with the shield. If it were an option, it would be listed in the book that way. It is not listed as an optional item in the car parts books. It is listed with all the standard parts.

Norm;

When you install the Cheby engine in your coupe will you install the heat shield "because it belongs there":confused: Bet you will get good judging points from the purists for having an original P-15 heat sheild on your Cheby powered car:D

Don,

You know I'm not into the points thing, or judging. I was just giving James the correct answer in case he's into the points thing. However, I'm not one to try and second guess the design engineer who built the car, or reinvent the wheel either. Logic tells me if the design engineers put it there, they had good reason. For that reason I think the original type P15 shield should be there if you have an original engine. Now, when it comes to "IF" I ever put the Chevy 350 engine in the coupe, it will have the "Chevy" manifold heat shields on the manifolds like the Chevy factory puts on them. I just like to play it safe.:D

ksujames,

I found a place that reproduces Heat Shields.

Paul Taylor Industries

P.O. Box 618

Arroyo Grande, CA. 93421

Excellent Original Heat Shield Reproduction

Excellent Service, mine came today.

The Kit was $35 with $7 S&H.

$42 was my total for a Shield for my 1948 Chrysler Royal (C-38)

If I were you I would Write this Dude and get one.
