Have just started on a D24 Fluid Drive sedan which has some rust issues.

I am stripping the doors to get them abrasive blasted, but cannot work out how to remove the glass.

It can only come out through the top and there is a fixed metal channel that the slide moves up and down in that stops the glass from being tilted to the side.

I have removed the garnish and weatherstrip, but looks like the glass is fixed to the two arms of the winding mechanism with pressed pins. There must be simple answer but it is eluding me at present.

I have ordered a Service Manual from the US that hopefully may have such basic stuff in it but it will take 4 weeks to arrive and I want to keep moving.

Any advise or suggestions greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Ron

Those "pressed pins" you mention have two circular clips that must be removed. Then, the window should come right out. You can remove those clips (with difficulty) when the window is all the way down. A flashlight and mirror will be helpful in seeing and removing them. They are difficult to get to but once you can see them you can determine how best to remove them. You SHOULD have a Shop Manual and Parts List Manual. They will be very helpful. I should have mentioned that a rear vertical channel that the window rides in must first be removed. It is held with two screws on the top and two small nuts and bolts on the bottom. Also, if you have vent windows, they must be removed also.

Thanks Barry,

I have removed the quarter vent window at the front of the door and the weatherstrip and guide at the rear, the metal channel at the front (basically under where the quarter vent window was) is welded in place and cannot be removed.

Attached is a pic of the fixed pin to the front of the door (bottom right of arm in the pic). This has a conical rubber spacer on the other side which is held in place by the other end of the pin being knurled over - no clips or nuts that can be removed.

Pics above from 46-53 car manual. Following pic from 46 parts manual...

As I said I'm more a truck fella, but see that your model was around 46-48. Hope the info helps.

Thanks Desotodav.

I have the Australian 46-53 Service Manual, but the D25 Australian delivered models have some differences to my imported D24.

The Parts Manual page, however,  is very helpful as it names the components.

I have removed the rear run channel assembly, but the front run channel is welded in place and unable to be removed.....

The 'fixed pin' I have mentioned appears to be attaching the  window regulator assembly to the Lower channel assembly. It does not have any clips or removable

/undoable fixings. Short of drilling it out it does not appear to be able to be removed, but then how would I get it back together?

Will have another look with the mirror and check with the parts pic to try to work out what I am missing....cheers

I'm glad that I could be of help Ron. It is odd that the pin you speak of doesn't have a clip and washer on the back of it - that's how the truck mechanism works. Drop me a PM if you need anything else from the parts manual.

I didn't realize that you were in Sydney. So you survived the 'super storm' last night? The place sure is a mess down your way! I'll be travelling through there on Saturday en-route to Kiama - I believe they are feeling the brunt of the storm down that way tonight. Hope that all is well with you fellow Aussie.

Look on the other side of the window channel for that clip....It's a sort of round headed type thing.   IT faces the outside skin of the door.
