Do any of you guys have some good sources for original upholstery material for a 1942 Dodge?

Thanks!

There is a good chance that SMS in Oregon will have it. Lebaron Bonney might have a good match as well. Lebaron will be slightly cheaper and much better to deal with. With either of these companies, you should expect to spend around $75 per yard and depending on your model will need between 3 and 4 yards of pinstriped wool broadcloth and 2 to 3 yards of solid wool which can be purchased from other sources in the $45 per yard range.

Thanks,I just emailed them both. Had never heard of SMS before. How much material do you think it would take to do a 1942 3-window business coupe?

...I was told I would need 3 yards of the pinstriped and 4 yards of the solid gray wool. I opted to order 4 and 5 yards so that I would have extra material for repairs. I have nevered unrolled it to measure, but it looks like I have quite a bit of material leftover. I'm guessing I could possibly upholster a Club Coupe and definitely do a Business Coupe. You should ask SMS and Lebaron. Lebaron will be very helpful. SMS can be pretty rude at times so don't be surprised. They were actually very polite the last time I spoke with them (depends who you get on the phone), but they made a major screw up with the fabric. Fortunately, I opened the end of the package before the UPS man could leave, discovered it was the wrong material and REFUSED delivery. That saved me having to deal with SMS's return policy whatever it may be.

Anyhow, they may have the exact yardage for you. My guess is you will need 2 yards of pinstriped and 2 yards of solid. I can't really recall what all the materials behind the seat of a business coupe consists of.

Now, a word of caution: These fabrics are run in LOTS. Each LOT will have a slightly different color to it. If you or your upholsterer screw up on a cut and have to order more material, you may get it from a different LOT and be unhappy with the match. I recommend getting an extra yard of each. It's great for repairs and gives you a safety margin.

Good luck!

Thank you VERY much,David. I had forgotten all about the "lot" thing until you mentioned it. VERY good advise!
