Good!  Now I'm wondering why the Hollander manual is in conflict?  I need a pair of rear fenders and wonder how to search for a pair that fit.

Thanks Plymouthy,

Good information to tuck away for when I get to that part.  (The rear end).  Right now we're concentrating on the body and how much rust we will have to deal with.  Maybe I'll find a pair of rear fenders laying on the curb some where!

Well, we've started sanding her down to see how much is left!

Welcome-  Wow, that thing is shiny !   My first car (1968) was a 1949 Plymouth P18 sedan.  That's why I bought and am fixing this one up

This is a great place for information and assistance.  Lots of knowledge freely shared.

What kind of equipment did you use to do the sanding on your car?  I'll be headed down that road shortly.  I took my fenders, hood and trunk lid off and had them media blasted but I'll be sanding and priming the rest of the body.    My car will also be a daily driver.  Living in AZ I don't need the heater so I'll likely leave that out.

Nice work. I love to see all the progress pictures of peoples cars

This car was stripped by the previous owner probably several years ago, and had been kept inside, but still had begun to start showing signs of rust on the bare metal.  So,  now we're sanding it again.  Using a air powered palm sander.  Still a little rust in/on the front fenders that is pitted a little.  But with proper preparation, we think we can seal and fill those areas.

Car has been in the shop for a couple of months for new gas tank, sender, fuel gauge, and fuel pump.....  Most of that time waiting on parts.

My brother is handling this for me in Illinois, and here's his report on the first test run after that.  Car now won't run more than 50 mph, but when he took it to the shop he said he ran it up to 60mph.  And now the car backfires when you shut it off.  The shop mechanic told him the coil was wired backwards, and he reversed the wires on the coil terminals in accordance with the manual.

So... why does it backfire and why won't it run faster than 50?

This is all the info I have at this time.

Assuming you paid this shop to make repairs I would think this question would first be directed to them. There paid for advice should be more accurate than any free advice you might get on the internet as they are the ones who did the work.

Already in the process Don,  Thanks,

I'm just trying to figure it out in the meantime.  Just happened today.

On the road again!

Discovered that points were not installed correctly by previous owner.  (One step at a time).  So far engine runs great!  And the car handles well considering no modifications to the original suspension.  Time to consider some upgrades... sway bar, shocks, etc.??

Also discovered that the speedometer is slow.  The car came with a good set of 205/65/R15s, but the diameter of that tire is 25 1/2".

If I understand this correctly a 6.70/15 which was original would be 27 1/2".  I have a decent set of 215/70/R15s which we're going to swap, which should help.  They should be 27".

Here's what she looks like.  If I decide I like the way it drives, we'll consider some body work!   B)

Sounds like you're off to a good start.  Show us some pictures.

I've got a spare engine and transmission that I've been holding until I see what I have.  Looks like I won't need it.
