MATT47025 Posted February 13, 2015 Report Posted February 13, 2015 I purchased a new key cylinder for the ignition switch of my 1950 dodge truck. The truck came with no keys. Roberts motor parts sent the cylinder right out but it doesnt fit. They say it should fit. So I am wondering if my entire switch has been replaced at some time? Anyone have a photo of what it should look like? Quote
B1B Keven Posted February 13, 2015 Report Posted February 13, 2015 The cylinder on the right is not correct. This is correct: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-Mopar-1948-68-Dodge-Truck-Ignition-Lock-Cylinder-Keys-/311266537328?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4878ee6f70&vxp=mtr 1 Quote
NiftyFifty Posted February 14, 2015 Report Posted February 14, 2015 Yep, the one on the right is for much later chrysler Quote
Bobacuda Posted February 14, 2015 Report Posted February 14, 2015 Can you get a new key made at a key shop (the type that only does locks and keys), or is the ignition switch roached? Quote
MATT47025 Posted February 15, 2015 Author Report Posted February 15, 2015 the switch is okay but we have no key. We bought the cylinder at roberts motor parts which says the cylinder should fit 39 thru 59. So we are sending the part back. So far we have been really pleased with ordering parts from Roberts this is the first problem we have had. Anyone have an alternate resource? Quote

Bobacuda Posted February 15, 2015 Report Posted February 15, 2015 Matt - Here is some non-solicited endorsement. Keven just redid my gauges and speedometer - total knockout! Can't wait to get my truck running to see them in action. Bob 1 Quote
MBF Posted February 15, 2015 Report Posted February 15, 2015 A good locksmith should be able to make you a key from what you have. You may get even luckier and find that the key fits your door lock. I ran into an old time locksmith this morning at a local dunkin' donuts and asked if he could make copies of my keys. He said no problem-he knows that he has the blanks on the shelf. I also asked him if he had the tumbler assembly if he could make a key from that. His response was, "of course". He's been in business longer than I can remember-that's the type of guy you need to find. Mike Quote
