atlbluz Posted February 8, 2015 Report Posted February 8, 2015 I need to replace the vent window weatherstrips. I guess I will buy from Steele. Do I need to remove the glass frame to install? If so what do I need to do to re-rivet the top hinge point of the frame? I thought I had done this in the sixties, but the rubber was too brittle to have been replace then. Any guidance is appreciated. Greg Quote
Andydodge Posted February 9, 2015 Report Posted February 9, 2015 I've done this to both my 41 Plymouth coupe and 40 Dodge sedan, both times I removed the complete vent window garnish molding then disaasembled the 1/4 window from the molding, removed the old rubber, reinstalled new rubber, then reinstalled the 1/4 vent and used a stainless steel rivet in the top pivot.......took a little while to find the S/S rivets but that's what I used, dunno if there is a special rivet and /or tool but here in Oz its a brick & a ball pein hammer........lol...................andyd 1 Quote
atlbluz Posted February 9, 2015 Author Report Posted February 9, 2015 OK that is what it looked like to me. Did you use Steele rubber? I also noticed that the roller for the window guide had frozen up and wasn't turning, so I need to make something to replace that also. Wish I was a machinist. And about that brick and hammer that is probably what I will be using also. Thanks for the info. Greg Quote
Niel Hoback Posted February 9, 2015 Report Posted February 9, 2015 Make sure its a Craftsman brick! Quote
Andydodge Posted February 9, 2015 Report Posted February 9, 2015 Nah, not Steele, when I got the 1/4 rubber the only place I knew of in pre web days was Andy Bernbaum, have been dealing with him since the mid 1980's...........got the rubber and wasn't till they arrived that I realized Oz built cars had a different 1/4 vent pivot point and back then the Oz dollar meant they cost me about $150.00 Oz so I couldn't bring myself to cut them up to fit the Dodge..........then 15yrs later I bought a 1941 Plymouth coupe that did need new 1/4 rubbers........and they fit perfectly........use the same brick that is used for vassectomies ...........lol..........they have handles so you don't hit your fingers when wacking the bricks together............lol..................andyd Quote

DonaldSmith Posted February 9, 2015 Report Posted February 9, 2015 Bricks and camels. When I was young and innocent, Chauncey the Barber loved to tell me risque' jokes, probably to see me blush. So the camel castrator, carrying a brick in each hand, sneaked up behind the camel and swung the bricks together, with the camel's jewels between them. "Huumph!" An onlooker asked, "Doesn't that hurt?" The response, "Only if you get your thumb between the bricks." OK guys, take it and run with it. Quote
Andydodge Posted February 10, 2015 Report Posted February 10, 2015 Its good to be the bringer of good tidings.....lol..........regards, andyd Quote
