1940plymouth Posted September 18, 2014 Report Posted September 18, 2014 My son and I converted my Plymouth to 12 volt recently. Today I am going to town so I will stop at the local Radio Shack to get a coupe of resisters for my horn and heater. Is there anything more that I should know before I ask them for a 12 volt to 6 volt resistor? Thanks, Bob Quote
Don Coatney Posted September 18, 2014 Report Posted September 18, 2014 I am not sure if Radio Shack will have a resistor that will support the amp load of the heater motor. I just found this one at Speedway Motors. I also need one so I think I will place an order this morning. http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Electric-12-Volt-to-6-Volt-Reducer-for-Motors,15824.html Quote
1940plymouth Posted September 18, 2014 Author Report Posted September 18, 2014 Thanks Don, I just got off the phone with Speedway. I ended up ordering two of the resistors you posted as the salesman told me they would work with horn also. Being that I have the dual trumpet horns, I don't want to damage them Quote
Don Coatney Posted September 18, 2014 Report Posted September 18, 2014 I ordered one on line. $27.01 delivered to my front door. 1 Quote

1940plymouth Posted September 18, 2014 Author Report Posted September 18, 2014 Yes, Monticello,NY they still have Radio Shack as the sign Quote
Don Coatney Posted September 18, 2014 Report Posted September 18, 2014 Radio Shack is still in bidness here in the Fort. Drove by one of there stores today. They are still active in Tennessee too. Quote
Adam H P15 D30 Posted September 19, 2014 Report Posted September 19, 2014 Don't need to change the horn. Just install a 12v relay and is well Quote
40plyrod Posted September 19, 2014 Report Posted September 19, 2014 If these will stand the load of the heater motor does it stand to reason they would also work for the windshield wiper motor? Quote
Don Coatney Posted September 19, 2014 Report Posted September 19, 2014 If these will stand the load of the heater motor does it stand to reason they would also work for the windshield wiper motor? Seems logical that they would work but to be safe I would check with the manufacture. I am not sure what the ampere draw is on a wiper motor but my guess is it is higher than a fan motor. Quote
