Firewall bracket on 1950 Suburban

In the center of the firewall in the engine compartment at the top are two studs. From pictures of other cars the looks to be a triangular bracket that bolts on under the cowl vent lip. I will post a picture later. Anybody know what it does or is?

Went out and looked at my '49, inside and out. The only purpose I see is to support the hood seal/welting. The firewall is not formed to match the shape of hood.
