vht Posted September 1, 2014 Report Posted September 1, 2014 On my 51 Dodge business coupe, my wing or vent glass assy in my doors aren't in to good of shape. Can you have a solid I piece glass cut and eliminate the vent glass? Possibly fab a front track for it to ride in. I don't have the dr glass so I'm going to need the bracket or track that goes on the bottom of the glass. Quote
DJ194950 Posted September 1, 2014 Report Posted September 1, 2014 One place you can check out- haganauto.com also sold thru speedway motors. Hagan has a section of how to do it. Others out there but don't remember their names. Never used one but have read several articles over the years, appears not too hard to do. DJ Quote
vht Posted September 5, 2014 Author Report Posted September 5, 2014 I'm going to pull my vent glass assy out of my 51 Dodge and see if they are as bad as they look. Was going to try and do away with them, undecided. My question is if the frame work is good is there anywhere you can get the seals and such to rebuild them? I found the glass already. Going to try and get them out this weekend. Quote
Uncle-Pekka Posted September 5, 2014 Report Posted September 5, 2014 I posted a step-by-step instructions with photos of the vent window glass replacement job here in 2007. Could not find the thread any more, may be administrator can help? This should have been the old link to my thread; http://p15-d24.com/topic/6922-replacing-the-vent-window-glass/?p=57916 However, you will find the basic instruction in the Dodge factory shop manual, at least in D24 manual there is a section. I might try to scan a page in next weekend. The hardest part is to get the old glass off the chrome frame without bending or scratching the frame. To install the new glass and seal you need to have a wooden jig to support the frame. Soap the rubber strip to get it smoothly in. I used a strip cut out off tire inner tube. Any black rubber of suitable thickness will do. It must be excess when installed, cut to size according to chrome frame when in place. Quote
steveplym Posted September 5, 2014 Report Posted September 5, 2014 Check out several vendors for the seals and weatherstripping. http://steelerubber.com http://oldmoparts.com http://robertsmotorparts.com Quote
vht Posted September 10, 2014 Author Report Posted September 10, 2014 Was going to try and do a 1 piece glass, no vent glass, but after looking, the door curves at the vent glass enough I can't do that. I have the frames but no glass. The handles are on the glass so they're gone to. I'm going to a big swap meet in a couple of weeks, so what do I look for that will fit my 51 Dodge business coupe? Inother words what will interchange yr wise and Plymouth wise. Thanks Quote

Don Coatney Posted September 10, 2014 Report Posted September 10, 2014 This is the third thread on the same subject. Sure would be nice to have all the answers in one location. Quote
