linus6948 Posted July 15, 2014 Report Posted July 15, 2014 Now that I have my interior fairly cleaned for the most part, I have noticed some spots where the Moth larvae have worked their magic in the years gone by. I`ve also noticed present day that Moths find this interior irresistible as I`ve shooed more than one away from the inside of the car when the windows are open. So as I really don`t care for the "Grandma`s-Attic" smell of Moth Balls I`m going to try Red Cedar and or Lavender essential oil instead. These emit odors that the Moths apparently don`t like, so I`m giving it a shot, I can live with the smell of a cedar chest and I`ve always liked the fragrance of lavender. So I used some old take-out containers with the lids full of holes to give the cedar a try, the lavender oil is being shipped to me, I put these containers under the front seat and will change the chips periodically as they lose their smell. ChrisRice Posted July 15, 2014 Report Posted July 15, 2014 My wife swears by essential oils. She says that the lavender does work, however she says that spearmint oils work better and repel more types of bugs, moths, Mosquitos, etc. she has said that dry lavender leaves work better then the lavender oils. Just her two cents. 1 Quote
linus6948 Posted July 15, 2014 Author Report Posted July 15, 2014 I appreciate your Wife`s input, I did not read about the spearmint oil, that is another smell I happen to be very fond of, thanks. Paul 1 Quote
Don Coatney Posted July 15, 2014 Report Posted July 15, 2014 If you do a google search for Martha Stewart or Helouise I am sure you can find many useful hints. If that fails and you are distraught you can write to Dear Abby for advice on what to do next. Quote
linus6948 Posted July 15, 2014 Author Report Posted July 15, 2014 (edited) You`re all right Don, once someone get`s to know you, but I`m still not gonna laugh. Edited July 25, 2014 by linus6948 1 Quote
linus6948 Posted July 19, 2014 Author Report Posted July 19, 2014 Well the Spearmint Oil arrived first so I added some of it to the red cedar and I have to admit it seems to really do the job. Makes the old girl smell like a rolling pack of just opened Wrigley`s Gum, it is a huge improvement over the mothball stench that the interior always used to have. Problem is now the wife wants to ride in the car, I`m afraid I might be losing my "Coupe of Quiet Solitude" Quote
linus6948 Posted July 25, 2014 Author Report Posted July 25, 2014 Well the Lavender essential oil finally arrived from Portugal and I added it to the mix, now it smells like you are chewing Wrigley`s Spearmint Gum while waiting in the Red Cedar Paneled Parlor of a New Orleans Bordello, and I haven`t seen a Moth or Mosquito anywhere near the car.
