Robert Caves Posted May 2, 2014 Report Posted May 2, 2014 I know this isn't a flathead but it appears to be as close as I am going to get to a group of dodge PU enthusiasts. I am restoring my 56 Dodge PU with 270 V8 and std trans. Who knew parts were hard to come by. Anyone know where I might find a flywheel or rear end for this beast? Quote
Jeff Balazs Posted May 2, 2014 Report Posted May 2, 2014 Robert; Welcome. There are quite a few C & D series owners here. You will probably get some help with this. The parts situation for old Dodge trucks is a bit of an eye opener. It is not horrible though.....stuff is out there you just have to know where to look. I see parts for the polys on Craiglist from time to time. You may also do well networking with folks you meet here. Also I believe there is a vendor out of Colorado who focuses on the C series and later trucks. I don't recall the name but it may be in the links section here. Jeff Quote
B1B Keven Posted May 2, 2014 Report Posted May 2, 2014 Welcome!! Pics of the truck please. Use the search function for Cherokee rear axle. A lot of guys are using them. What part of CA? Quote

William Davey Posted May 2, 2014 Report Posted May 2, 2014 First I suggest you run your VIN on this website http://t137.com/registry/help/decode.php. I suggest this because my '55 was advertised as having a 242 Hemi, but actually has a 259 Poly-hemi. Don Bunn's book on these trucks indicates that Mopar planned and advertised the 54 and 55 trucks as having a 242, but supply could not keep up with demand so almost every 55 has the 259 V-8. I think the 270 engine was used in some Dodge cars of that era and physically looks identical to the 259. Note that the Kanter catalog shows the 270 for our trucks, but that is not correct (at least for mine). You mention hard to find parts, what are you looking for that you can't find? Quote
