lscrymgeour Posted June 5, 2007 Report Posted June 5, 2007 Previously I was trying to find clips for the hub caps on my Fargo halfton. Someone suggested Mitchell Mopar parts and they were showing 3 of them in stock but when I talked to them they are not able to locate them in the warehouse so I am back to the starting point again. I only need 2 clips as I have all of the rest. Does anyone out there have an old wheel, with a least a couple of them, and who would be prepared to remove the clips and sell them to me? I would take any extras as well. Alternately I would be happy to purchase the wheel, ship it and remove them myself. Does anyone know of another source I could try? As an alternative has anyone fabricated replacements themselves? How did they work. I thought of seeing if I could find some spring steel and seeing if I could make them myself. Also does anyone have any suggestions on the best way to mount them. Would I be able to bolt them on with red locktite or should i get them riveted on as per the original. Thanks, Lyle Quote
Merle Coggins Posted June 5, 2007 Report Posted June 5, 2007 It's a possibility. How do they come off? Are they riveted on? Merle Quote
Reg Evans Posted June 5, 2007 Report Posted June 5, 2007 I have heard of people making them out of spring steel used to wrap loads of lumber. Either a bolt or a rivet would work. Quote
lscrymgeour Posted June 5, 2007 Author Report Posted June 5, 2007 Merle I think you would have to drill out the rivet. The clips have a hole in them and there is a corresponding hole in the rim. The hole in the rim is about 3/16". I would then reattach them with a bolt and locktite. Lyle Quote
Merle Coggins Posted June 5, 2007 Report Posted June 5, 2007 I'll try to remember to look when I get home. (won't be 'til late tonight) I think that a couple of the wheels on my parts truck have a couple of clips each. One has all the clips, so I don't want to disturb that one. And the 4th one, as I recall, looks like a Ford passenger car rim. Merle Quote
lscrymgeour Posted June 6, 2007 Author Report Posted June 6, 2007 Merle Please let me know what you find out. Thanks for considering removing the clips for me. Lyle Quote
Merle Coggins Posted June 6, 2007 Report Posted June 6, 2007 I remembered it this morning, so I threw one of the rims in the back of my pickup this morning. Here's 3 on this one. I'll work on getting 'em off today. Send me a PM with your shipping address. Merle Quote
