I have a 12 volt charger that is designed to leave on a battery for storage. can it be converted to storage charge a 6 volt battery , with perhaps the addition of a resistor in the line? is it safer to just buy a 6 volt storage charger? I would like to save money, but if I destroy a battery then I am not saving anything. capt den

Both of the  chargers that I use for my winter storage are for 6 and 12 volt. and both cost about $30, one from Sears and one from Walmart  Both do the job, one on a 6 volt system and the other on a 12.
