Took Front Bumper For A Re-Chrome Today

Made a road trip from Joplin to Cuba, MO  which is right at 200 miles one way.....just off I 44 on the way to St. Louis.  Left the front bumper and 9 bumper bolts (to have the heads actually chromed).  There were

only three small places in the bumper needing some straightning.   Cost was just a smidge over

$400.  Probably not too bad as the rear bumper cost either $300 or $350 several years ago at

a different shop.  

 

And, the owner said they will deliver the bumper to Springfield, MO when done, which is only an

hour drive from here.  Apparently they make periodic runs to Springfield to pick up and deliver

to shops there.  

 

What I saw of some completed work looked good.  So, hopefully, all will be fine.  Will just

have to wait and see.  

 

You can see the bumper didn't look too bad before...............

I know where Cuba is, but I didn't know there was a chrome shop there.  I looked at some work done on a friends car in Nashville, TN and it looked really good.  He said about 1000 for both bumper and the frt bumper guards and bar.  Chrome just isn't cheap anymore.

Good to know this shop is in Cuba. I'm about 2.5 hours from Springfield and could go to Cuba and back as a day trip to drop off and pick up items. Especially at this sort of price, which these days sounds very reasonable.

Dale is making more progress on the car.  It is now painted and the new windshield with Steele Rubber gasket is in.

Also he has the back seat pretty much done.

That chrome shop in Nashville probably does excellent work . But they seem a bit high. On prices.

Bob..of the plating folks I have talked to including the ones at the government facility, compliance with EPA directives and cradle to grave tracking and handling of the chemicals has placed the operational cost to the companies at a substantial increase in cost that is further placed onto the consumer through higher cost on end items plated.  Any infraction and EPA fine is often enough to close a small shop forever.  Anyone that does not express these concerns/costs may not be operating on the same level playing field outlined but the EPA...reclamation and disposal cost are at an all time high..each and all personal in the manufacture, delivery, use, disposal and waste management get their fair share of revenue for each step as all must be licensed and regulated to handle these components at each step of their life.  Offshore chroming is not expensive as they at this time are not subjected to these rules and regulations...as a federal worker I have seen the Hazmat program growth by leaps and bounds in the approx. two decades since they started the strict enforcement of waste stream management.
