47heaven Posted May 26, 2007 Report Posted May 26, 2007 I installed the windwing rubber today and noticed that the window won't close tight against it after pull it's closed and I turn down the chrome handle lock. There is some looseness and play to it and it looks like the window may have been forced open at one time. It obvious that it needs to be replaced, but how? It looks to be rivoted into the frame of the window. Would it be better to try to find a better window with a handle lock that's not tweeked or can this be repaired? Any ideas? Quote

Norm's Coupe Posted May 27, 2007 Report Posted May 27, 2007 Darin, It may not be a problem with the lock handle. It may be that when they painted the window molding, they put the part that goes on the molding in the wrong place. Try adjusting that. Quote

Yes, the frame is slightly bent outward a little near where the handle is connected and it sometimes doesn't turn up because the button jams and can't be pushed in. The rubber came from Steele and seems to fit real well. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted May 29, 2007 Report Posted May 29, 2007 Darin, I find it hard to believe that the vent wing frame is bent out of shape and is causing the problem. The glass in the vent wing is flat. If the vent wing channel/frame is bent, how could you get flat glass into it without breaking it. A piece of flat glass that small will not bend without breaking. I think the problem is with the catch being out of adjustment on the window molding. The only other possibility would be that the part that goes through the window molding is bent. Quote
JIPJOBXX Posted May 29, 2007 Report Posted May 29, 2007 Now this might sound a little mickey mouse but have you tried to put a little shim under the latch when its in the close position. My T Bird passenger side vent window leaks in air and it sounds like a slight swizzle. I fixed this problem by just sliding a dime under the locking mechanism causing the window to shut tighter. I have done this on a few cars and it works but you may not want to do this? Well that's my two cents worth. Jon:cool: Quote

However, the manner in which the wing vent is mounted is similar to the rear item. Just the handle is in a different location. Quote

The only other possibility would be that the part that goes through the window molding is bent.[/quote'] Norm, Looking at the handle assembly a little better, it seems to be pulled out a little farther that the driver's side windwing that works and closes correctly. This, I'm sure was caused from being pried open at one time. It did pull one side of the window frame to bend out a little, thus causing the extra space when the window is closed. Nonetheless, the handle is damaged within. That being the case, how would it be replaced or fixed, for that matter? Quote
