I've always had to remember to hold the handle in the open position while latching my trunk. A few weeks ago I realized its probably not supposed to be this way. A quick examination of a spare latch and sure enough there is a spring that holds it in the two positions. Today I went to swap them out. Apparently the last owner tried to fix it too because two of the 4 screws were half ground off. That took a little more than I would have liked but its all installed now.

Yes, my trunk handle is either in the open or closed position and stays there.  So,  guess I've been fortunate

to have a correctly working latch.  Since the exterior chrome trunk handle is the same on many 40s Mopars.....i wonder if

the latch part is the same size and shape on all brands and can be switched between them for repair purposes.

I only have a plymouth parts book but it shows part # 872924 for 40-48 plymouths.
