48 Plymouth Front Drivers Side Wheel Cylinder Repair Kit

Ok Gents,

I just picked up a rebuild kit for both wheel cylinders at NAPA and was wondering if anyone has rebuilt these before? I probably should have just purchased new wheel cylinders but i saw they had rebuild kits also so i went with that. As the picture shows i took the 2 wheel cylinders off and was wondering how in the heck you get all of those parts into each small wheel cylinder? The new kits came with a diagram that shows where each part goes but how do you get into the cylinder with out doing damage to the walls? I purchased a wheel cylinder honing tool. Inside the boots when i pulled them off was a lot of crud. A rust colored fluid came out everywhere when i took them off the car and when i had them on the work bench the clear new fluid that i put in came out of the cylinder. I appreciate your help! I may just buy 2 new wheel cylinders and call it a day but was wanting to know what luck you have had using the kits for rebuilds.

You need to get the old ones apart hone them and see if they come out smooth inside. If they don't you need new ones.

They should just come apart. Once you take that rubber boot off nothing holds them together. You can try putting some air into the line or bleeder hole. Watch out for the piston to become airborne!
