First Weekend update on the new Forum

This weekend I continued to chip away at the front end. After 2 years of work everything now is in final assembly. Getting the firewall finished was essential so that I can assemble the front clip and get the car ready for the paint shop in the spring.

Looks like yer knocking off some good sized chips. Looks great. Are you putting the clip back on before paint, or painting the pieces seperately??? My paint job was done over 2 years. Did the hood, fenders, inners, grill support, splash pan. Trunk lid, rear fenders. These were wrapped in plastic and hung from the rafters of my painter's shop. Then the body was done, stripped down to bare metal below the windows ( DA sanded above as it was original paint) the lower section was apinte at least once, and I wanted to know what was under it. It was put back together then, color sanded and buffed.

Greg,

Once I get the clip on I will have the whole exterior painted. The rear fenders are spaced off with washers so that I can remove and install the welting after the exterior paint. I might install the front windshield and the dashboard so that I can drive the car to the paint shop.

At present the interior is completely stripped out. The only thing left is the rear window glass. I will paint the trunk and floor before it goes to the paint shop. After the exterior is done I will reinstall the glass and the interior. Should be fun putting the finishing touches on the interior.., a lot more fun then working underneath it. The headliner is from Kanter.

Color sanding is a wet sanding process used after the top coat is put on. It is usually done in stages using very fine sand paper usually finishing with 3200 or 3600 grit paper and lots of water. It is the process by which any airborn contaminents, booth dust, are removed, and the surface is leveled again. It is followed by coumpound buffing to bring back the shine.
