greg g Posted May 21, 2007 Report Posted May 21, 2007 Spent some time on the instrument cluster from the Studebaker. Painted the panel with hammered finish Rustoleum. Looked for the Hammerite, as I used it on my engine block and it has stood up well. But the hardware guy said Rustoleum bought the name and their stock is gone. Anyway I pulled the cluster apart, freshened up the background with brushed on flat black, touched up the needles with some Toro red touch up paint I had laying about, cleaned the glass, and shined up the chrome surround with a brillo pad. Also painted the rear reflective surface gloss white. It will go into a zip lock storage bag till needed. (hope it likes it in there) Oh the hole between 40 and 50 is the highbeam indicator real high tech, a piece of red plastic file glued to the end of a cardboard tube slipped around the light fixture Quote

Guest 50Plymouth Posted May 22, 2007 Report Posted May 22, 2007 Looks like satisfying effort. The best part is nothing broke or got dropped when you cleaned it all up nice Quote
De Soto Frank Posted May 22, 2007 Report Posted May 22, 2007 Looks great, Greg ! I'm still too chicken to touch the cluster in my '41 De Soto... everything's working right now, so I figger I'd better leave well enough alone... ( But one of these days, my yen for that color-changing speedo & brighter dash lights is going to ge the better of me, and I will tear into it!!!!) Quote
