The first 'B' refers to the Pilot House series, which ran from 1948 to 1953. The number refers to the year of production, with the '1' being either a 1948 or 49 (check serial number for exact year). The '2' is a 1950. The '3' is a 51 and 52. The '4' is a 53. The second letter refers to the tonnage, with 'B' being half ton, 'C' a three-quarter, a 'D' being a one ton, etc. As you get into the higher tonnage vehicles, the numbers get a little convoluted, with double letters and such. Check Don Bunn's books for details.
