Guest DeadBodyGuy Posted May 19, 2007 Report Posted May 19, 2007 Well, I have been 2 days trying to get the body off of my '46 bizzy. It seems I have all of the mounts loose. I still need to pull the gas tank and back shocks, but the front and rest of the body seems stuck tight. Could it be from the undercoating? I took the seats out today (someone had put buckets in years ago) and I removed the carpet. GOOD NEWS! the floor looks great. It has been patched before years ago also, but it holding up nice. I got the steering column out and steering wheel. I cut the column because it wouldn't slide out no matter what I tried. Does anyone know a website or a "How To" for removing the body? I keep thinking I'm missing something, but I can't see anything. Thanks in advance Chuck Quote
Normspeed Posted May 19, 2007 Report Posted May 19, 2007 I don't know, Chuck. I can't get past the post title "Removing the Body", posted by DeadBodyGuy. Quote
Guest DeadBodyGuy Posted May 19, 2007 Report Posted May 19, 2007 LOL!!! Norm, I bet you though this was an instructional post huh? I was half asleep when I wrote it or I might have used a better phrase. Funny stuff Chuck Quote
bob westphal Posted May 19, 2007 Report Posted May 19, 2007 I have done quite a number of body off restos'. Almost every time I have this same problem. Every time it has been the same cause. I missed at least one mount bolt! The factory is real good at hiding mount bolts under the dirt. How are you lifting the body? Quote
Guest DeadBodyGuy Posted May 19, 2007 Report Posted May 19, 2007 We are using a floor jack until we see it's loose, then we are going to get about 8 guys and sit it on pallets until we think about body work. I still need to get the Nova front clip welded. I wanted the body off for that. I was gonna go at this pace. 1. Remove nose 2. Take out old engine (283 chevy) 3. Remove Interior (seats and carpet only since it's a bizzy) 4. Remove Steering column 5. Remove Body 6. Weld Nova Clip on my frame 7. Clean new frame until it's nice and all black. (Figure 2 weeks minimum) 8. Put new 350 Chevy in with tranny 700 R4 9. Run new brake lines and fuel lines. Then I'll start thinking about bodywork. Thanks Chuck Quote
Lou Earle Posted May 20, 2007 Report Posted May 20, 2007 The steering column does not slide out from the box you must remove the box ans shaft as a unit i. At least I did . Have you removed tht doghouse? That is the front from the door post forward? Grille fendsrs etc? If not you need to . Have you removed the 2 bolts - one on either side on the "feet" of the front posts that the doors hang on? Also I believe but not positive that there is a bolt that attached to the rear crossmember - In the trunk? Quote
Guest DeadBodyGuy Posted May 20, 2007 Report Posted May 20, 2007 Lou; Yes, the nose is off from the front doors forward. I'll look for hidden bolts tomorrow. Thanks Chuck Quote
PatS.... Posted May 20, 2007 Report Posted May 20, 2007 I would leave the body on the frame while the clip was being installed so that any possible interference issues would be obvious. Might be easier to center with the body available for referencing. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted May 20, 2007 Report Posted May 20, 2007 look in the trunk..right side..there is one there for body torque under acceleration... Quote
Alexander Posted May 23, 2007 Report Posted May 23, 2007 dont forget the 2 under the rear seat. I did this on my 47 a few years ago. it was not that bad. I was able to slide the chasis right from under the body. Quote
