Labrauer Posted February 28, 2013 Report Posted February 28, 2013 This is great for a couple that got married 60 years ago in a 48 Plymouth convertable. Quote
Merle Coggins Posted February 28, 2013 Report Posted February 28, 2013 That's a great story. I had the chance to hear a similar story in person last summer. I've posted this here before, but it seems fitting to post it here again. I had seen the car, shown below, at a couple of different shows in the last couple of years. But last fall I ended up parked next to it at a show hosted by the local WPC Region Club. I got a chance to sit and chat with the owner and his daughter. As you can see from the window sign, this car was a gift from his kids on his 50th wedding anniversary. Apparently he has been a long time Mopar guy and one of his sons found this car somewhere in Minnesota (I think). It originally belonged to a funeral home and apparently wasn't used much. I remember him telling me that they found a sticker from the late '60's showing it had been serviced with around 1800 miles. Anyway, this guy found it and talked his siblings into all chipping in to purchase the car and fix it up for "Mom & Dad". They brought it home and a couple of the boys worked on it secretly to get it ready. Apparently all it needed was a good tune up, some good gas, and a good cleaning. As far as they know it's the original paint, and the original engine runs like a top. The secret stayed in tact until the day before the big reveal. "Dad" happened to drive past his sons house while out and about delivering parts for his part time job. He saw the car in the driveway, as they were doing a final clean and polish. He turned around and went back to see what it was all about. They ended up letting him in on the suprise, but got him to keep quiet about it to "Mom". The next day at their 50th wedding anniversary party they unveiled it to "Mom & Dad" and he acted suprised. He did admit that even at that point it still didn't seem real. Now they drive it everywhere and fully enjoy the car. It was truely a pleasure talking with him and his daughter about it. Quote
