DarrellB Posted December 26, 2012 Report Posted December 26, 2012 1948 DODGE B-1-B 1/2 TON Pickup 6cyl 3.6L 1BL L-HEAD The lower bushing on the distributor is worn out, and I need a distributor. My distributor number is IAP4001-1. Bernbaum told me they only made these a couple of years, but they are interchangeable. Interchangeable with what, I do not know. So if anyone knows a resource for used, reman, aftermarket, or someone who can rebuild it, I would like to know. The HEI's are for 12-volt systems, and this truck still runs on 6-volts. Quote
HanksB3B Posted December 26, 2012 Report Posted December 26, 2012 Hi Darrell, I'm not an authority on which fits what (someone else please chime in) but I think the distributors are basically the same (and interchangeable) with one exception: The shaft length is either 5.25" long or 5.5" long depending on the displacement of the block 218, 230, or 251 I think. 1AT-4003A is 5.25" long. (I think this is for the 218 and 230 engines) 1AT-4102 is 5.5" long. (I think this is for the 251 engines) Do you know the correct shaft dimension of the distributor your engine requires? Hank Quote
desoto1939 Posted December 27, 2012 Report Posted December 27, 2012 Yes limited models that ued this same disb. Instead of getting a new disb look for a person that rebuilds distributors and ask if they can replace the bushing. The Bushing is an Autolite IG-579A. This bushing was used in all of the disb from 1938-1951 Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com Quote
beyert99 Posted December 27, 2012 Report Posted December 27, 2012 Darrell, Call Jeff at Advanced Distributors,(612)-804-5543. I sent mine to him this past summer for a complete rebuild. He was a great guy to deal with, the distributor was returned like new, and all in a couple of weeks. Hope that helps, Tim Advanced Distributors 17495 Marystown Road Shakopee, MN 55379 (612)-804-5543 1 Quote
DarrellB Posted December 27, 2012 Author Report Posted December 27, 2012 Hank, I will measure. No problem. Who sells these distributors? HanksB3B Posted December 27, 2012 Report Posted December 27, 2012 Hank, I will measure. No problem. Who sells these distributors? Ebay has them from time to time but I wouldn't count on it. I rebuilt those two. I'd sell the one I don't need (I think my 218 or 230 uses the shorter one). Is yours rebuildable? They are really not that difficult. Seems like a good way to go: Advanced Distributors 17495 Marystown Road Shakopee, MN 55379 (612)-804-5543 Or if it's the bushing you need: The Bushing is an Autolite IG-579A.
