Bouncy B Posted May 12, 2007 Report Posted May 12, 2007 My 1949 B-1-B is missing the floor panel that covers the transmission. It's the 3 speed with emergency brake. Does anyone have one? I'm considering making my own since it's under the floor mat and won't be seen. Thanks, Richard Quote
Dale Uhrich Posted May 13, 2007 Report Posted May 13, 2007 I have one for a 4 speed trans but have check about the brake hole? Quote
Bouncy B Posted May 14, 2007 Author Report Posted May 14, 2007 I'm not sure if the 3 speed and 4 speed are the same. Maybe someone out there could enlighten me! Richard Quote
Merle Coggins Posted May 14, 2007 Report Posted May 14, 2007 I believe most of the 3 speeds were column shift, whereas the 4 speeds were all floor shift. If you have a column shift trans, then you wouldn't need the hole for the floor shifter lever to come through. If you have a floor shift 3 speed, there may not be a difference, and then again there might be. The shift lever may come through in a different spot. Merle Quote
Dale Uhrich Posted May 14, 2007 Report Posted May 14, 2007 My thought is even if there are differences ,slight changes will be less work than making one. I have two covers that both had floor shifts, but haven.t checked about the hand brake. It would be simple to cut or patch that hole either way. Quote
Bouncy B Posted May 14, 2007 Author Report Posted May 14, 2007 My '49 has the 3 on the floor as well as the emergency brake. I think this may have changed by the 1950 models. Quote
grey beard Posted May 15, 2007 Report Posted May 15, 2007 48 and 49 were all floor shift and floor e brake. Not sure about 1950. Problem is, the three and four speed floor shift units each need a different top cover for the floor. My own Pilothouse was a 4 speed someone converted to a 3 speed. In the process they had to elongate both the floor holes involved. wish I could find an original 48 or 49 3 speed cover that's not chopped up. If you think this is bad, there are TWO 4 speed boxes, one with synchros and a crash box. Sad to say, the parts book lists nearly a dozen part numbers for these things. 1097 386 is the 3 speed cover. Then they list nine other part numbers for B1 and B2 four speeds. Looks like the odds of finding just what you need are pretty thin soup . . . . . . LOL Quote
