Dash knob preservation?

On my 48 Dodge can the dash knobs be preserved in some way? Dash & window crank handles are very brittle after being exposed to Montana summer sun for over 30 yr.. Thinking maybe a dip in clear epoxy??

that will help the cosmetics only..not sure it will help to ensure that they do not later crumble once dried and cracked such as they are. once a new smooth surface has been put on with the epoxy..an bit of spray vinyl dye or even some applicance paint in spray can may made them look a bit more user friendly..most anything you do will often make a ntoicable change..and usually does not hurt to try
