karl head Posted September 14, 2012 Report Posted September 14, 2012 Hi everyone I just had a chat with the guys from V.P.W and egge and it seems that Its near impossible to find rings for the three ring pistons in my 251flathead anyone have a source........I'm looking for std rings thanks Karl Quote
NiftyFifty Posted September 14, 2012 Report Posted September 14, 2012 Good luck, I ran into this exact issue with my 251... They just don't make them anymore, and in some cases it was another manufacturers positions used that just happened to fit the bore. I had to get all new pistons for mine Quote
Northwind Posted September 14, 2012 Report Posted September 14, 2012 Have you tried www.hastingsmfg.com/RingFinderMasterDetails.aspx?They list rings for CHRYSLER back to 1931. I see 251 6cyl 3 rings per cyl. They have rings for almost everything. Top notch service too. Good Luck Paul Northwind Quote

NiftyFifty Posted September 14, 2012 Report Posted September 14, 2012 Just watch the price! I got a great deal on pistons and rings from Northern Auto, might be a better way to go if their a premium for stock 3 rings Quote
MBF Posted September 15, 2012 Report Posted September 15, 2012 You may also want to try a machine shop that does engine rebuilds. They use sources that go by size, not application. Might save you some $$$ Quote
karl head Posted September 15, 2012 Author Report Posted September 15, 2012 (edited) Hey first of all thanks to everyone for the help. I was able to get the rings from Hastings and also from a local supplier. I also was able to find a set of NOS rings from Roblin's Garage a classic scrap yard, where I picked up my engine and a lot of other parts at a great price the owner has a wealth of knowledge and a couple barns full of used and NOS parts. I will provide phone # upon request he also sells some stuff online just google the name. I have a question for the guys running a 251 with 4 ring piston with regard to the oil control rings and wither they were solid or the conventional style . thanks Karl Edited September 15, 2012 by karl head Quote
55 Fargo Posted September 15, 2012 Report Posted September 15, 2012 Great for you Karl, gotta couple of 251s around here for possible future rebuilds Quote
karl head Posted September 15, 2012 Author Report Posted September 15, 2012 Conventional Thanks the reason I ask is that the hastings site gives the oil ring dimension as 5/32 and my fathers in laws Austin has solid compression styled oil rings so I though maybe a source for compression rings.
