eric wissing Posted May 6, 2007 Report Posted May 6, 2007 I would like to replace my trunk carpet. I checked JC Whiney and it looks prety bad. I would like something that looks like it belongs from the era or even a rubber mat. Also I noticed that the spare rim is from a much later year. I am guessing these will be hard to find locally. Is there a source for these? Thanks, Eric Quote
Reg Evans Posted May 6, 2007 Report Posted May 6, 2007 These folks were advertising this mat for my 40 Plymouth. I asked them if they could make it in rubber with bound edges and was amazed that they said yes. It was only a few dollars more than this one. They also said they could have other mats made for me if I sent them a pattern. I'm very happy with the one they made for my 40 Plymouth and plan on having them make some more for my other cars. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&sspagename=ADME%3AB%3AAAQ%3AUS%3A1&viewitem=&item=140073671387 Quote
eric wissing Posted May 6, 2007 Author Report Posted May 6, 2007 Reg, Thanks. I will contact them. I am remaking the plywood divider that sits on the driver's side in the trunk. It has delaminated. I at first thought it was home made but it is stenciled "Plymouth Sedan". Again much thanks. Eric Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted May 7, 2007 Report Posted May 7, 2007 Reg....a nice looking item. The starting price seems reasonable. Far as I know, all P15 Plymouths had jute backed rubber mats in the front floor and in the trunk. Sides of the trunk were lined with some kind of grained material also backed with jute. They had the flexibility to conform some to the curve of the inner fender. The divider behind the back seat was a heavy cardboard. Have never seen any with plywood. Quote
Reg Evans Posted May 7, 2007 Report Posted May 7, 2007 Yes....the price was right. They made me one in rubber with bound edges for $49.00. No backing but I can add that easily. Man...it sure got dusty in a month. Where's my Armorall? Quote

The plywood peice I was talking about sits on the side oposite of the spare and holds the jack. The carpet in my trunk area looks original, maybe just real old. It has a pattern to it. It is shot. I think I will go with Reg's idea. Do they still make Jute Padding? Is there something better besides the tin foily looking stuff? Eric Quote
claybill Posted May 7, 2007 Report Posted May 7, 2007 underneath the spare are a few holes..for water drainage i guess. take the spare out and put a folded rag there. water can leak out but dust wont come in... the original rubber mat from plymouth had the logo / pdcp / molded in. if you still have that mat. keep it! save the logo part...anyway. claybill Quote
claybill Posted May 7, 2007 Report Posted May 7, 2007 hey...thats an original painted rim too.! bill Quote

No logo. I see the little felt peice under the spare. It still is in good shape. I contacted the ebay seller that Reg suggested. They will only sell via Ebay. So I have to wait until they post another. I am still looking for an original style rim for my spare. Thanks, Eric Quote

BobT-47P15 Posted May 8, 2007 Report Posted May 8, 2007 Quite frankly, guys, I don't think the P15 had any specific place for the jack, except the cardboard box in which it came. I haven't found any place for it to fit in conveniently. Some older cars provided a hook affair behind the spare. I think the previous owner invented his jack storage piece. (But....I've been wrong on certain past occasions.) Quote
kevinanderson Posted May 8, 2007 Report Posted May 8, 2007 I have heavy cardboard behind the back seat also. It is a dark brown. But nothing on the sides. And the trunk mat was a woven plastic/vinyl. Looked like it was a yellow and maroon plaid with a maroon border sewn on at one point-with no logo of any sort. And doesn't the rag in the tire well collect moisture? Mine has plugs in it. Eric, you looking for a 15 or 16 inch. I might be able to scrounge one up and drop it of the next time I am in Sioux City. Quote
eric wissing Posted May 8, 2007 Author Report Posted May 8, 2007 15" rim, that would be great. Thanks, Eric Quote
