montego8 Posted August 13, 2012 Report Posted August 13, 2012 I've searched the forum but can't find a answer to my questions. I am putting a 318 from a 78 truck in my 50 dodge. The truck is 4 wheel drive so the transmission is not going to work. Since I need to shop for a transmission I thought I would get a auto overdrive unit to help with gas millage. But my local cheep junk yard only has v6 aod's? My question is this: What year aod will hook up to the 318 ,what type of vehicles do I look for and are the bolt patterns on the v6 the same and are there any external electronics required on the aod's? Thank's for any help in advance. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted August 13, 2012 Report Posted August 13, 2012 am thinking you lare looking for the A500 or A518 from 1988 to 1993...am thinking they went electronic control in 1994..the V6 and V8 interchange..the thing to keep in mind is that the trany suffix is RH and NOT RE..RH is rear wheel, hydraulic shift. where the RE is rear drive elecctronic shift..keep in mind that the 360 if you come across one will have an external balanced torque convertor...they will need the weight addressed when going on anything else..be sure to grab the electrical..though not electronic controlled, the OD lock out switch is needed.
