ggdad1951 Posted June 1, 2012 Report Posted June 1, 2012 After yesterday's drive, I decided to check around under the cab and look over the suspension and such. The passenger side top rear shackle bushing was a little loose (could tell from no paint being there). Then I remembered I had to loosen it to get grease to go in. How tight against the casting should they be? Shop manual gives no definitive answer. Quote
Desotodav Posted June 1, 2012 Report Posted June 1, 2012 I haven't seen anything in any manuals about how tight they should be Mark, but you don't want to bottom out the zerk fitting. I tightened mine up to the point that they looked right and I still had enough room to get grease into them between the bushing and the shackle. Desotodav Quote
ggdad1951 Posted June 2, 2012 Author Report Posted June 2, 2012 so maybe loosen the zerks and thighten to "snug" the bushing and reinstall the zerk after measuring and making sure it doesn't bottom? Quote
Desotodav Posted June 3, 2012 Report Posted June 3, 2012 Yep... that's what I did with mine. I actually removed the zerk fitting to see where I was at. I reckon that it would make it difficult to grease up the shackle/bushing with a grease gun if the zerk fitting was tightened to flush against the end of the shackle. Desotodav Quote
