Mark D Posted April 22, 2012 Report Posted April 22, 2012 The FORD V-8 club held there 42nd annual flea market and car show at the Fitchburg Mass airport this morning. They where lucky enough to get a few hours in before the drizzle and rain started. Sadly I arrived at 9am to find many of the vendors packing up due t the impending rain. However, i did get to walk the aisles and was very impressed with the variety and assortment of parts that was present, literally something for everyone. If you're in the area next year you might want to consider attending. Admission was $5- Even with the threat of rain there was at least 100 cars present. I took a few shots of the stuff that was for sale. The red '48 had a price tag of $12,9- and was in real decent shape. The black two door was a '39 and was a running recent barn find original. Engine shot is from the '39 as well. As I was leaving the gate I bumped into a friend from my local club and he told me he was chasing the owner of the '48 with an offer. Quote

RobertKB Posted April 22, 2012 Report Posted April 22, 2012 Looks like an interesting swapmeet and thanks for posting the pictures. Don't get me wrong because I like any old car. However, when I look at that '48 Ford and compare it to a '48 Plymouth, I wonder why Ford outsold Plymouth that year. The Plymouth, to me, is a way better looking car and the engine is just as reliable, and in many cases, outperforms the V8 flathead. There must be a mystique about the Ford V8 flattie. Is it only me or do some of you other guys think the same?? Quote
Mark D Posted April 22, 2012 Author Report Posted April 22, 2012 Bob I tend to agree with your statements, and recall never looking at old fords when it was time to find a project car. I did drive a friends stock 1947 four door the year before I started to look, but don't recall being overly impressed with the 5HP from the two extra cylinders. Fords of that year made 100 HP from a 239ci engine, Mopar inline 6's made 95hp from 217.8 with far less internal components to go awry. Other than a few volvo's I've driven GM products and a few fords since I started driving in the early 80's, but the Plymouth I have is the first mopar. I really fell in love with the cars appearance before I learned about its realiability and toughness. Quote
