I got a nice Plymouth clock a few years ago on e Bay, (I think), for the wagon. I'm now working on the dash, and realized that although the clock was a genuine accessory in 1940, I've never seen one installed in a dash. I did have one in my 1940 Dodge, installed in the glove box door, but the door obviously came from the factory.

Anyone know if Plymouth had the clock installed in the glovebox door, or have pictures of one?

Bob.......if that glovebox & clock is ever excess to your needs I happen to know of someone (me) who would be VERY interested in helping you to clear space on the shelf...........lol.........rereading your post am I right in assuming the 1940 Dodge is no longer around?.................andyd

in 1940 the clock was in the glove compartment door

My 40 doesn't have a locking glovebox button...wonder if that comes with the clock option?

My guess is that the "correct" glovebox door would have the chrome trim around the clock opening, or I would've found something on ebay a while ago that would've looked good..still might{maybe}.

You would be correct. I traded the clock and glovebox door for some other Dodge parts with a fellow Dodge owner a few years back.

The first picture is of a clock in the glove box of a 40 Plymouth coupe. The second I pulled of eBay some time ago as a reference.

Very cool. Thanks for posting. I have been looking at '40 Plymouth parts for almost 10 years and never ran across pics like that! If I cut into a regular glove box, the hinge on the back will need to be modified somehow. You don't have any pics of the inside of the glovebox door do you?

Sorry, never thought about asking to open the glove box to take a picture. I think he said it was a different glove box door for the clock.

Hey AndyDodge.....count me in on the "bulk" buy!

It is amazing to think that there was a time when all these "goodies" were sitting on a shelf and available just for the asking (plus $$'s).

Since that isnt the case anymore eBay (love it or hate it) is the closest thing to a Mopar parts superstore. Funny how many old school Moparites bought their cars for $50 - $350......now you couldnt find a clock for a 1941 Plymouth for much less.

Eons ago I bought a $500 70 cougar{boo hiss, I know} from california and wanted to find a 1/25 scale model of it for the package tray....the guy who had one wanted $200.00 for it and I laughed out loud, told him I just bought a set of real ralleys with trim rings for my 1:1 car for that and walked out...wound up finding my model at a model flee market for $35. It's always the little stuff that kills you, isn't it?!, well, the big stuff can too but it somehow seems better when it's bigger for the money than some tiny little thing that has to cost and arm and a leg.

BTW- I scored a 1/25 resin '41 plymouth 4 door body for my real car's package tray for roughly $40. I'm in the process of back dating it to a 40.

Great info! There are 2 different configurations of the door sjown on this thread - with and without the horizontal bar - is one the P9 and the other a P10?

Any chance of finding a door - maybe VVAP or somewhere else

, or should I plan to modify my existing door?

Thanks,

Bob

Happy to share the info with the forum

The photographs are of a 1939 Plymouth Glove box door for optional clock.

In the Dealer Option Book page the illustrations are of:

1940 Plymouth on the left

(There are two different 1940 Plymouth doors mentioned and only one shown)

1940 Dodge on the right.

By clicking on the photo and then enlarging (Ctrl & +) you can see the detailed info.

Never seen a 1940 Glove box door (for Clock) for sale.

I do have the 1939 door and a 1940 Clock I was going to install in my car.
