Guest P15-D24 Posted March 20, 2012 Report Posted March 20, 2012 Been collecting parts for a while and I think i'm ready to install. Have the exploded view from the parts book but still have some questions/concerns. If you have an electric wiper setup would greatly appreciate your help on a couple questions. 1. Cowl pivots mount with two screw to the pivot under the cowl. Does the center screw mount up or down? (I'm assuming up for lubrication) 2. The linkage arm on the wiper pivot (that connects to the motor linkage) does it have a dog leg or is it straight? 3. Motor mounting uses the two screws in the dash above the power switch? 4. Length of the pivot to motor linkage, hole center to hole center? 5. Is the linkage from the pivot to motor linkage straight or have a slight dog leg? Some of the parts I have don't exactly match the pic in the manual and I have collected the parts from multiple trucks so I think I had the right stuff. TIA Quote
Guest P15-D24 Posted March 20, 2012 Report Posted March 20, 2012 For question 2 I'm referring to "Pivot 23-67-86". In the pic the arm on the driver side is straight while the ones I have all have dog legs toward the rear of the truck. For some reason the illustration doesn't have a link arm on the passenger side pivot. For question 4 ann 5 I'm referring to "Link 23-67-79". Hope this makes it easier to understand the question. Guest P15-D24 Posted March 20, 2012 Report Posted March 20, 2012 "Straight" motor to wiper pivot link and pivot with dog leg Quote
JBNeal Posted March 20, 2012 Report Posted March 20, 2012 1.) screws mount up for lubrication 2.) wiper pivot arm has a dog leg as pictured 3.) yes 4.) center-to-center distance is 8-3/4" 5.) link 23-67-79 has edges that are parallel to a line from hole center-to-center; the surface that mounts to the wiper arm pivot and the surface that mounts to the motor arm pivot are offset by about 1-7/8" Quote
Guest P15-D24 Posted March 20, 2012 Report Posted March 20, 2012 5.) link 23-67-79 has edges that are parallel to a line from hole center-to-center; the surface that mounts to the wiper arm pivot and the surface that mounts to the motor arm pivot are offset by about 1-7/8" So the ones shown in the picture are incorrect? Sounds like they actually resemble the factory exploded view? Quote

JBNeal Posted March 20, 2012 Report Posted March 20, 2012 the parts manual exploded view isn't entirely accurate, as it shows those dog-legged formed links and a passenger pivot that is missing its arm. The straight links that have an offset would be cheaper to make than the dog-legged links, so the parts manual exploded view may be an early production drawing. The ones pictured look similar to the ones I have. Verifying the part numbers and from what dimensions I have measured, the electric motor & linkages for the B-1 & B-2 are different from the B-3 & B-4. Quote

Might have shared the engineering drawing. Quote
JBNeal Posted March 21, 2012 Report Posted March 21, 2012 the wiper arms should slip over the threaded pivot shaft onto the shaft splines, and a chrome acorn nut should retain the wiper arm. Quote

Guest P15-D24 Posted April 26, 2012 Report Posted April 26, 2012 For a B1 the correct arm is the 7-1/4", not the 8-3/4". I suspect cowl pivot placement is different on the later models which would use the longer arms. Also would strongly suggest running a separate ground wire to the the brass ground strap on the back of the motor to insure good electrical contact. I got mine in today and working! Quote
