A building built in 1900 caught fire tonite about 10 pm, and I imagine the

damage is heavy. I think some of it was vacant......may have been a

small bar in one portion.

We saw flames from the parking lot of the club where I was playing.

Went by the place on our way home, but the street was blocked off

and both aerial trucks were in use.

Joplin has taken a bunch of hits, first the tornado. I put the pic on my screensaver / background, very dramatic.

Went by the fire location this morning.....was still smoldering some and

a couple fire trucks were still on hand. Main street still blocked off in

the area. From the back side, you can see what portion of the building

is now missing.....fallen in. Was vacant except for the small beer joint

on the north end. I presume it's a goner now.

Kevin, it's in the 900 block of S Main St.

Not in the area I think you mean.

There is the old area they've been rejuvenating called

"Murphysburg".....plus some part of Main from about

1st St to 7th St.

Ya, I was thinkin' of the part of Main St. north of 7th (by the library).

My dad was born on a hog farm on Schifferdecker, but lived across the street from the 'Red Brick' schoolhouse on the way out to Carls Junction (Lone Elm Ave and Fir Rd).
