ailimac11 Posted February 19, 2012 Report Posted February 19, 2012 I have a 1936 D2 Dogde with what I am told is a 1951 230cu engine from a plymouth pickup. Markings on the head are P1311810. I have a couple of questions. I used the distributor from the original 1936 dodge 218, will there be any issues? It ran fine for a while, probably about 16 hours, before it became hard to cold start. I noticed that when I order a rotor online I get 2 different shapes. one type looks as if its half on a rotor, and the other is bigger. Second issue is when I try and adjust the carb, using the screw closest to the manifold nothing happens. I can adjust it all the way in or out and nothing changes. Its a newly rebuilt carb. I tried adjust carb because its idling roughly all of a sudden. It did run smooth for a while, but one day it just started to run rough. I don't know if rough idle and hard start are connected. I also just purchased an everdry kit, but mistakenly, ordered it for a 1936 instead of a 1951. When I started to install it I noticed that there is a large gap between the head and the evrdry cup, which seems to defeat the whole purpose because water will surely sit in the space. Would a evrdry kit for the 51 sit closer to the head or are all kits the same? I also got a new set of wires. I tried to set the timing using a light but had a very difficult time seeing the markings on the balancer so I plan on trying to do a static timing set. Only problem there is I can't get the engine to turn by hand. As you can propably tell I am no expert at this. This is my first try at a restoration. any info and help would be greatly appreciated.
