Turn signals info needed

I'm in the process of installing turn signals in my 51 and need to know if the signal assembly needs to to grounded to steering column? I found an old setup at the junk yard and clamp is too large for column so I wrapped column so clamp would fit and now wondering why I can't get a click from my flasher. Thanks Eric

Yes it should be. Run a screw from the body or the clamp to a good ground. I did that on both my p15 and 46 pickup rather than sanding paint off my column.
